I have a headache. In part because I stayed all night writing for my alibata site. And I'm now thinking that this project is bigger than I can handle, and it was suppose to be just a way for me to pass time. :(
Doing web research, I found out that it is erroneous to refer to the old Tagalog script as alibata, and that it should be properly be termed baybayin.
The reason? During the American era, some scholar coined the term alibata to refer to the scripts, and it was caught on by the media. But during the pre-Hispanic and Hispanic era, it was actually called baybayin.
Confusing, huh? It shows how history have changed since high school.
I know for one that Princess Urduja was probably just some legend perpetuated by some scholar to paint pre-Hispanic Filipino women, but imagine my shock when I found out that Datu Kalantiao, famous for the Kalantiao Code, was actually a hoax too. Funny thing is, during the Marcos era, the goverment instituted the Order of Kalantiao for meritorious achievement in law-making.
I think Oscar Wilde was right when he said, "History is merely gossip."
Erm, so what? Haven't moved in a week... Argh, I know, I know... I should be hanged...
Well, my week wasn't all that bad...
I learned how to use Fontographer and created my own alibata font, and is hoping to make a website to make it available for download. (Keyword here is hoping.) My spirit got a little bit dampened though when I learned there are lots of available alibata fonts on the net. :(
Ronald and I went to Quiapo again today to buy pirated dvds... erm, I wonder if this is safe to say out loud.
Then when I got home and opened one of my many email accounts, I got an invite from sassy lawyer to try gmail! Sweet! I think she got intrigued by my id: cardboardboxprison. :D
So, okay, I got myself to go out today, even though the errand was capricious -- went for a double feature. I went to see “The Day After Tomorrow,” and as expected, the story was incredulous, after all, I maintain that natural disaster movies had their heydays during the era of “Twister,” “Deep Impact,” and the like in the late 1990’s.
The next movie I saw was Harry Potter -- again. This time with no expectations -- just went in to digest the movie as is, and what do you know, I liked it the second time around. There are just some things you have to take a second glance to appreciate it. Now whether I have to courage to go out again tomorrow, and do the things rightly important, is another question.
It has been some time since i made an entry... and though there are things I wanted to say, it is mere laziness that's been keeping me from doing anything productive.
As you know, I haven't been going out for more than 2 weeks (not even out of the house) -- just staying in my room, in bed watching the presidential canvass on tv or surfing the net. And this is rather shocking, when I went out of house to buy some snacks, I wondered why the lawn was suddenly expansively bright -- d'oh , it's because the large palmeras were all gone, they all have been uprooted. Maybe they're going to do some gardening this weekend.
That's what happens when you've been in seclusion most of the time. Arrgh, the laziness of me. :(
Saw Harry Potter today with Ronald, its first day of screening at the cinemas -- one of those "traditions" we've sorta made: to watch HP (and LOTR) on its first day and watch it at least twice in succession.
But today, we forego watching it again. Probably we had a very high expectations about the movie, that we were kind of a bit disappointed. Either that or we've outgrown it.
